Friday Five 26/08/16
Each week we pick five things we're feeling on the interwebz. We hope you might find them interesting too.
This week: Midland's favourite mixes, A Guy Called Gerald on dance music's heyday, Larry Heard on the return of Mr Fingers, in-depth with Roger Linn and the secret life of a DJ.
Midland mines SoundCloud
Running dry of mixes to listen to or can't be bothered to separate the wheat from the chaff? Midland has done the hard work for us, scouring SoundCloud and compiling a playlist of his favourites. In his own words, "A couple of months ago I started making a playlist on soundcloud to collate some of my favourite sets I had found on there. There are some well known, some not so much. I promised myself I would post it when it reached 50. It's a work in progress." Get listening!

A history lesson from A Guy Called Gerald
A prominent figure in the development in UK electronic music culture, A Guy Called Gerald plots a course through the scene's embyronic stages circa 89-93 alongside some musings on where the scene is now and where it might be headed. Knowledge drop.
Secret life of a DJ
An anonymously-penned insight into the life of a female DJ/producer in The Guardian. The themes of gender diversity, inclusivity and discrimination have been high on the agenda throughout 2016 and whilst too well worn for some, having the voices of females heard on this subject is surely more help than hindrance?
